Case Study

Compton House

Broad Oak Properties recently carried out a £250,000.00 refurbishment project on behalf of Moorlands Housing, part of the Harvest Housing Group. The project involved the major refurbishment of Compton House, Leek and included the provision of new bathrooms, kitchens, heating and fire alarm systems.

Structural works were also carried out including a new roof and extensive structural repairs and re pointing to bring the property up to decent homes standard.

Compton House is an extensive former private dwelling house over 200 years old that has been Converted into eight 1 and 2 bedroom apartments. The building itself borders the local conservation area and is overlooked by a Grade 1 listed Church that is noted as of “significant architectural importance.” It also maintains many of its original internal and external period features. As such, all works carried out at the property had to be sympathetic to the surrounding properties and the existing features of the property itself.

Due to a late revision to the programmed works, Broad Oak were requested to incorporate a full wet room into the property of a 95 year old tenant who wished to remain in her property, but was struggling with mobility. Despite the extremely short notice of the request Broad Oak designed and installed a full wet room to DDA standards within 5 working days of receiving the request. This was despite the challenges posed by the existing bathroom layout and having to contend with 200 year old existing plumbing and drainage.

Brett Fellows, Clerk of Works for Harvest Housing Group wrote "All of the works carried out by Broad Oak were to the very highest standard and were completed on time, to programme and well within budget with minimal disruption to tenants who remained in their properties at all times throughout the completion of the works. I would not hesitate to recommend and use Broad Oak Properties on future developments."
